Thematische Gliederung der History of Middle-earth: nach Bänden sortiert

Im Folgenden werden zwei Übersichten veröffentlicht, die die thematischen Zusammenhänge innerhalb der zwölf Bände der History of Middle-earth aufzeigen: die erste ist nach der Reihenfolge der Bände sortiert, die zweite nach den jeweiligen Themen.

Dem Anfänger soll mit den beiden Übersichten die Kaufentscheidung erleichtert werden – falls er nicht gleich alle Bände kaufen möchte, sondern sich erst auf ein bestimmtes Thema konzentrieren will -, der Fortgeschrittene und der Profi aber können sich ebenfalls immer wieder an Hand der Farben orientieren, wenn er zum Beispiel rasch wissen möchte, in welchen Bänden Karten enthalten sind.

Ich habe zwölf Themenkomplexe ausgemacht (dass es ebenfalls zwölf sind, ist Zufall), die sich durch die zwölf Bände ziehen.

Jedem Themenkomplex ist eine Farbe zugeordnet, sodass mit einem Blick festgestellt werden kann, in welchem Band welche Themen behandelt werden. Die innere Struktur, die Christopher Tolkien verfolgt hat, wird so farblich abgebildet.

Die zwölf Themenkomplexe sind folgende:

Die erste Übersicht (die im Folgenden gezeigt wird) gibt original die Titel des Inhaltsverzeichnises wieder; die unterschiedlichen Themenkomplexe sind dort eingefärbt.

Die zweite Übersicht ist nach Themenkomplexen geordnet; unter jedem Themenkomplex findet man - in der Reihenfolge der Bände - die dazugehörigen Titel aufgelistet.
